Add vintage style to a pretty blouse or plain jacket. with a set of flower buttons

Choose tiny scraps of silk and oddments of embroidery threads to make these sweet flower buttons. Three different flowers are shown here, but try combining other embroidery stitches to create your own flower garden of buttons.

  YOU WILL NEED
Scraps of silk fabric
 23mm self- cover button kit
 Fabric marker
Stranded embroidery threads (use two strands throughout)
Sewing needle

1. Place the fabric in the embroidery hoop. Lay the circle template that comes with the button kit on the back of the fabric and draw around it. Place the button back in the middle of the circle and draw around that as well. This smaller circle indicates the area in which to embroider.
2. Using two strands of embroidery thread and the sewing needle, and working on the front of the fabric, embroider a flower motif. Keep turning the hoop over to check that you are stitching within the inner marked circle. Follow the Flower Stitch Guide and the photograph to make the buttons shown here.
3. When complete, cut around the outer drawn circle. Assemble the buttons, following the instructions supplied with the kit.
