Make handmade beaded curtains

Beaded curtains were very popular in the year 1960. Beads add artistic quality to a window or doorway. You can buy beaded curtains directly from most of craft stores today but the choices are limited and the price is quite expensive. However you can create your own special beaded curtains at home. It is very easy and simple. You just have to gather the needed materials, spend some time stringing beads and decorate your door or window.

In this article you will find a simple method to make a beaded curtain. Decide upon a design before you shop for the needed materials. You may think to use multi-colored beads and arrange strands of beads into an exclusive design. Sketch your design on a paper to make it easy to choose the right beads.

Materials and tools:

1) Fishing line or strong thread
2) A lot of beads
3) Strong curtain or dowel rod
4) Rod brackets
5) Eye hooks
6) Ruler and pencil
7) Scissors

Work instructions:

First of all, you have to measure the window or doorway you want to cover. This is the best time to figure out the right width of the rod. Use a ruler to divide the rod into equal parts and mark it using pencil. For a thick curtain, mark every half-inch or so. Then screw in the eye hooks at the marks.

Cut fishing line or thread into pieces. Leave room for tying off ends about two inches longer than the length of your curtain measurement. Tie a knot at one end of the thread, this end will become the bottom of the curtain.

Now you can start threading beads. Put the beads to the other end of the line. When you reached the desired height, tie a knot at the other end. You have to put the knot next to the last bead, and make sure you leave about three inches of thread available on top so you can make a loop. When you are finished threading the first strand, repeat the same process for the other strands. Then attach each beaded strand by placing the loops onto the eye hooks.

Fix the rod brackets securely above the window or doorway. Carefully put the finished curtain rod on the brackets. Now it is done.

This fun craft is very simple. Just make sure the thread and rod are tough enough to hold the weight of the beads. Decorate your favorite room with beautiful handmade beaded curtains. You will love it.
